what is this place?

a quick overview of wtf: what it is, who it's for, and how it works.

wtf is a forum for people who want to have conversations, not get fed by algorithms... unless one chooses to.

the basics

the site is organized into subs: topic-focused communities where people post, discuss, and reply. there's no algorithmic feed pushing content at you. you subscribe to the subs you care about, and that's what you see.

accounts

you need an account to post and reply, but you can browse most content without one. your username is how people know you. pick something you're happy with, because changing it later requires contacting us.

karma

karma is a rough measure of how much value you've added to the community. posts and replies that get upvoted contribute positively; downvotes bring it down. karma isn't the point, but it's a signal of whether you're contributing or just consuming.

no ads, no algorithms

we don't run ads. we don't sell your data. we don't use algorithms to manipulate what you see. the site exists for its own sake, funded by members who choose to support it.
