subs and communities

what subs are, how to join them, and how communities are organized.

subs are topic-based communities, the building blocks of the site.

joining a sub

browse to a sub and click subscribe. subscribed subs show up in your feed and in your sidebar for quick access. you can also mark subs as favorites to pin them to the top.

each sub has its own rules

moderators set the culture and rules for their sub. what's fine in one place might not be welcome in another. read the sub description and rules before posting somewhere new. violations of sub rules can result in your posts being removed or getting banned from that sub.

creating a sub

anyone can create a sub. when you create one, you become its admin. you can set the rules, appoint moderators, and manage the community. with that comes responsibility: you're expected to keep the space healthy.

public vs private

most subs are public and anyone can read and join them. admins can restrict a sub so that only approved members can see or post in it.
