moderator roles and permissions

the difference between admins and moderators, and how to manage your moderation team.

subs have two levels of moderation: admins and moderators.

admins

the sub creator is the first admin. admins have full control: they can change sub settings, manage the moderator list, and do everything a moderator can do. there can be multiple admins. admins can promote moderators to admin status.

moderators

moderators handle day-to-day community management. they can review reports, remove content, ban users, and manage members. they cannot change sub settings or manage the moderator list.

adding moderators

admins can add moderators from the moderators page. add people who are active and trusted members of your community. having 2-3 moderators for an active sub is a good baseline, as one person can't always be available.

removing moderators

moderators who are inactive, who are abusing their position, or who ask to be removed can be taken off the list by admins. if a moderator is abusing their role, contact site admins. there are escalation paths beyond sub-level moderation.
