handling reports
how to review and act on content that community members have reported.
reports are members flagging content they think violates sub rules. your job is to review them and decide what to do.
what gets reported
members can report posts and replies. they're asked to give a reason. common reasons include spam, harassment, off-topic content, and rule violations. take the reason into account but make your own judgement. reporters aren't always right, and sometimes a report is just someone disagreeing with a post.
your options
- dismiss the report: the content stays; the report is closed
- remove the content: the post or reply is hidden from the sub
- remove and ban: remove the content and prevent the user from posting again
be consistent
apply your rules consistently across all members. if you remove one person's post for something, remove it when others do the same thing. inconsistent moderation creates resentment and accusations of bias.
removed content
when you remove content, it's hidden from the sub but preserved. you can see removed content in the hidden content section and restore it if you change your mind.
